When someone calls with a rush order, they don't have time for a lecture. They need to know what works, what doesn't, and what risk they're signing up for. A standard PU-coated jacket looks fine in the store. It beads water for the first few weeks. And in a light drizzle, honestly, it's probably enough. If you're walking between a car and a building, a $40 PU shell is fine. The problem shows up when you ask more from it. Once a PU-coated jacket wets out—that's when the outer fabric saturates and the coating stops moving vapor—you end up wet from the inside. There's no way for sweat to escape. Rayon isn't all bad. For a one-time event where the clothing won't be laundered before it's worn, rayon works fine. If the client will reuse the shirts, I'd rather pay a little more for performance fabric. Grant this to rayon: it's easier to find in stock when you need 50 pieces in 48 hours.

- Choose rayon when price and look beat durability. Choose performance knits when the garment will be washed and worn again.
